American Religion

USA Today put out an article today entitled, Survey: Americans freely change, or drop, their religions.

Some stats that jumped out to me:
  • Nearly 20% of all men and 13% of all women say they are unaffiliated. So are 25% of adults under age 30.
  • All the major Christian denominations are losing numbers fast. Only non-denominational Christian churches showed growth outpacing losses.

As a part of the article, they also have a nice interactive map which shows the break down by state.

Here is their introduction/summary:

A new map of faith in the USA shows a nation constantly shifting amid religious choices, unaware or unconcerned with doctrinal distinctions. Unbelief is on the rise. And immigration is introducing new faces in the pews, new cultural concerns, new forces in the public square.
