Engineering in the 20th and 21st Centuries

The National Academy of Engineering has an excellent website dedicated to the Greatest Engineering Achievements of the 20th Century.  My favorite Ogaraspect of the website is their time-lines which enable you to trace the history of some of these technologies as they developed.

Besides the obvious achievements like electricity, the Internet and automobiles, there were also a few that I had not thought of like highways and water supply distribution.

For a look forward to the 21st century, check out the National Academy of Engineering’s Grand Challenges for Engineering website.  Among the challenges they list for the 21st century are providing accesses to clean water, restoring and improving urban infrastructure, preventing nuclear terror and securing cyberspace.
