Major Causes of Procrastination

(From AAIM seminar on Getting Things Done):

  • Avoiding an unpleasant task.
  • Lack of energy/motivation.
  • Escaping from an overwhelming project.
  • Don’t know where to get started.
  • Don’t know what to do next.
  • Just completely overwhelmed by the quantity of stuff to do in general.
  • Unclear goals.
  • Urgency addictions (i.e. you thrive off of urgency)
  • Psychological defense mechanism to protect you from fear of failure, fear of criticism, or even fear of success.
