Tonight we’ll be focusing on 1 Samuel 4-9 in the Old Testament Historical Books class (part 10 of 20 - half way there!). We’ll look at the Ark Narrative, Israel’s demand for a king, and the meeting of Samuel and Saul.
The notes for the class can be found here:
As a primer for tonight, I’ve challenged the class with the following questions:
-
At the end of Chapter 6, ask yourself:
-
If you were a Philistine, what are you thinking right now? How do you process this? What are the implications of what just happened?
-
If you are an Israelite, what are you thinking right now? How do you process this? What are the implications of what just happened?
-
-
Focus on 1 Samuel 7:2-4.
-
What stands out as significant in this passage?
-
-
As you reach 1 Samuel 8, ask yourself:
-
What do we make of Israel’s demand for a king? Why do they say they want a king?
-
How does God respond (in general, and also specifically to Samuel)?
-
What stands out to you in Chapter 9 when Samuel and Saul first meet?
-
